If you are being reviled in this season, if there is someone in your life that is just dead set on bullying you or persecuting you or slandering you or falsely accusing you, if there is someone that is just trying to make your life as difficult as possible or they're trying to hurt you in whatever way that they can, then this word is for you from God. This is part three of how the Lord tells us to respond to this. In 1 Peter 2, God is telling us how to live godly lives even in a pagan society. If your situation with how you are being attacked is even worse because it's completely baseless and you've done nothing to deserve it, then I want to read to you verse 22.
It says Jesus committed no sin and deceit was not found in his mouth. So he was clearly completely undeserving of all of the persecution and attack that he was facing. And we already covered that Jesus is our example and we are called by God to follow the example of Jesus if we indeed are a real Christian. In verse 23 tells us how Jesus responded to that baseless attack.
It says when he was reviled which in the original language means reproached, railed at heaped abuse upon and vilified. He did not revile in return. When he suffered, which means undergoed evils, was afflicted a little while, he did not threaten, which means minace or forbid, but he continued in trusting himself, which means surrendering himself, yielding up himself, giving himself into God's hands, and giving himself over to him who judges justly, which means God's righteous, upright, right judgment, deciding absolutely between the righteous and unrighteousness of man. This chapter goes on to basically explain that Christ died for us to be able to live this way and that he is the shepherd and overseer of our soul.
To be a true Christ follower means that he is who he says he is to us in his word. Shepherd and overseer in the original language means pastor, presiding officer, director, protector, one who watches over your welfare, superintendent and head. So my question to you is, is Jesus truly that in your life? Have you so entrusted your life to God that you don't revile back when you are reviled, but you allow God to be the judge?
Have you so submitted your life to Jesus that you truly allow him to be your protector and the one who watches over your welfare instead of you trying to take it into your own hands and protect yourself? Have you so entrusted yourself to him that even when you are being attacked and harmed, you let him be the one to be your director in your head and you don't say or do anything that he doesn't tell you himself to do? Are you actually living out the calling of God on your life that he has made very clear in his word? If you need help with this, if you need help responding this way in your everyday life with knowing how to endure in this way and understanding this at a deeper level, then the links to my coaching are in the caption below.
