If you have been struggling with spiraling into things like condemnation, shame, fear, anxiety, anger or familiar spirals this Word is for you!
Remember, the enemy is clever and stealthy, when he comes to you with lies, it usually sounds true. It sounds plausible, correct, practical. With human understanding it can seem to make perfect sense. It can even sound like the voice of God at times…
But we must be aware that satan often uses familiar spirits to LIE to us.
An example of a familiar spirit is like a generational stronghold. It seems like your thoughts because it is FAMILIAR. You and your family have been thinking that way your whole lives.
FRIENDS, these familiar spirits and spirals you have been going into your whole life are what God is putting His finger on and exposing in this season.
He is after your freedom right now and we need to partner with Him in that.
Like in Joshua 24, Joshua listed out to Israel of their history with God. He listed out all of the ways that God had always, continually, sovereignly and supernaturally delivered, provided and took care of them.
Even when people used their free will for evil and tried to make choices to oppress, harm or even kill them, there were so many accounts of God saving His people throughout their history.
At the end of Joshua reciting all of God’s history with His people, proving His faithfulness no matter the circumstance, He said to the Israelites, “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.”
Here to “fear” the Lord in the original language means to reverence, honor, respect, and be in awe of.
So when we fear someone like that and when we serve someone what does that mean
IT MEANS WE LISTEN TO THEM AND OBEY THEM.
A lot of us have been listening to and obeying the familiar spirits and generational strong holds- which is comparable to “the gods that your fathers served” in this verse.
We have to make a conscious choice to seek the Lord on what the lies of the familiar spirits are and ask Him to reveal these triggers systems that have kept us circling in the wilderness far too long.
We have to stop serving those “gods”. Stop listening to the lies and obeying them by allowing yourself to spiral.
Then Joshua says in the next verse, “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” And this is where I believe the Lord is drawing the line.
Like a Father He is putting His foot down and saying, these can not continue on with you into your next season- We must “put them away” in our minds as it says in Joshua 24.
You must choose today who is actually your God. You must choose today who you are going to listen to, to fear and serve from here on out.
It’s time to renew your covenant with the Lord like the Israelites did in Joshua 24, draw a line in the sand and not teeter toter the line again.

If you have been struggling with spiraling into things like condemnation, shame, fear, anxiety, anger, familiar patterns, this word is for you. Remember, the enemy is clever and stealthy. When he comes to you with lies, it usually sounds true, plausible, correct, even practical. With human understanding, it can seem to make perfect sense.
It can even sound like the voice of God at times. But we must be aware that Satan often uses familiar spirits to lie to us and mislead us. An example of a familiar spirit is like a generational stronghold. So, say one or both of your parents were anxious.
That subconsciously becomes a way you also think and process. And when the familiar spirit of anxiety comes and lies to you, because you've seen your parents listen to it your whole life, and because you have been listening to it your whole life, it seems true. But it causes so many broken cycles, broken relationships, just brokenness all around. It seems like your thoughts though, because it's familiar.
You have been thinking that way your whole life. Friends, these familiar spirits and spirals you have been going into your whole life are what God is putting his finger on and exposing in this season. He is after your freedom right now, and we need to partner with him in that. To stop uh circling the wilderness.
And like in Joshua 24, Joshua listed out to Israel their history with God. It stood out to me that even when Pharaoh and the Egyptians pursued God's people and tried to kill them, God supernaturally parted the Red Sea and delivered them. Also stood out to me when Balak and Balaam would not listen to God, rebelled, and tried to continue to curse God's people, God sovereignly intervened. He stopped them, and he saved his people from them, and caused Balaam to even bless them. At the end of Joshua reciting all of God's history with his people, proving his faithfulness no matter the circumstance, he said to the Israelites in Joshua 24, "Now therefore, fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and faithfulness.
Put away the gods that your father served beyond the river and in Egypt, and serve the Lord." Right here, to fear the Lord in the original language means to reverence, honor, respect, and be in awe of. So, when we fear someone like that, and when we serve someone, what does that mean? It means we listen and obey them. A lot of us have been listening and obeying the familiar spirits, generational strongholds, and lies, which is comparable to the gods that your father served in this verse.

Like a father, he is putting his foot down and saying, "These strongholds, these lies, these spiral patterns, trigger systems, and familiar spirits of the enemy cannot continue on with you into your next season. We must put them away in our minds as it says in Joshua 24. You must choose today who is actually your God. You must choose today who you are going to listen to, to fear, and to serve and obey from here on out.
It's time to renew our covenant with the Lord like the Israelites did in Joshua 24. Draw a line in the sand and do not teeter-totter the line again.
